In the hearts of Parisians and tourists around the world, Bouillon Chartier is one of the best places to enjoy French food at a good price.

Founded in 1896 by Frédéric and Camille Chartier, Bouillon Chartier had a simple idea: to offer a meal worthy of the name at a modest price. Today, Chartier is over 120 years old!

DECORATION

When you enter this place, you are surprised about how huge it is and about the artful decorations. There are a lot of historical items on display: a drawer where the tablecloths, tissues are stocked, many big paintings and mirrors on the wall. You won’t just be paying for French food; you will watch a special show with the waiter in black and white suit. The first time I went there, I felt like I was in a royal restaurant and everything was so magical.

RESTAURANT

Upon sitting down, the waiter brings you the “plat du jour”, or the specials menu. You can even see the date on this menu. The ordering is also special, the waiter writes your order on the paper tablecloth. And then, he takes a picture. It becomes your bill at the end of the meal.

Although this is a special place, it is an affordable one.

Starter for 2-4€: you could have 6/12 typical snails, eggs with mayonese, green beans, etc.

Mains course for 10 – 12€: you can have Sauerkraut, sea bream with potatoes, roast chicken with French fries, etc.

Desert for 2-4€: Chocolate mousse, rice pudding, apple compote, and more.
